Comparatively effects of pressure , tempareture and oxygen tension on photosynthetic and respiratory rtaes in porphyra umbilicalis (L )J, Ag.
Mustafa shameel

Comparatively effects of pressure , tempareture and oxygen tension on photosynthetic and respiratory rtaes in porphyra umbilicalis (L )J, Ag.
ABSTRACT:
Influences of hydostatic pressure (600atm) , temperature (50, 150 and 300 C ) and O2 concentration (3 410 % of air saturation ) of the outer medium were studied on the rate of O2 exchange of porphyra umbilicalis collected from heligoland (north sea ) . the O2 tension acted antagonistically to the pressure effects. The pressure influenced rates of respiration and apparent photosynthetics decreased gradually with a decrease in the O2 concentration and vice versa ; the effects on photosynthesis, however, were lesser than those on respiration. The O2 concentration of 30% was found to be critical, at higher values repiration of the pressure affected algae increased whereas at lower values it decreased as compared to control . At O2 concentration lower than 15% , the rate of O2 exchange decreased very sharply . the pressure influences were retarded by higher and intensified by lower temperatures.

Biochemical inhibition exhibited by datura innoxia M seeds.
ABSTRACT:
Germination studies of datura innoxia seeds showed that the possible factors responsible for the dormancy were hard testa and biochemical inhibitors in the seeds . laboratory bioassays were run to analys the possibility of seed residual toxicity. The leachate, artificial rain-drip , water extracts from whole seed , seed coat and cotyledon proved to be

Effect of (2- chloroethyl ) trimethyl ammonium chloride on the yield of okra . (abelmoschus esculentus).
Khalil ahmad khan and asrar-ul-haq

Effect of (2- chloroethyl ) trimethyl ammonium chloride on the yield of okra . (abelmoschus esculentus).
ABSTRACT:
The ffect of (2-chloroethyl ) trimethyl ammonium chloride(CCC) on the yield of abelmoschus esculentus was studied . seeds of A. esculentus were soaked in 400, 800 and 1200 ppm of CCC for 24 hours. Treatment of okra with 400 ppm did not influence the time taken for flowering and fruit set, 800 and 1200 ppm of CCC delayed the flower intiation and fruit set . number of flowering was not influenced by 800 ppm CCC where as it decreased significantly in 400 and 1200 ppm. 800 ppm produced significantly higher number of fruits . fruit yield increased by 12.55 percent . dry weight of the seeds and number of seeds per fruit indreased slightly but nin0significantly at three concentrations . no significant effect was observed on fruit size.

Effect of light and temperature on seedlings raised under sodium chloride salinity.
ABSTRACT:
The growth of wheat (triticum aestivum L) jute (corchorus capsularis L) and maize (zea mays L) cultured on the control and saline (NaCl) media were studied in dark and light. Sodium chloride showed an intensity effect on the growth of seedlings and this effect was enhanced with increase in light intensity and temperature.

The relationships amongst dominance , diversity and community maturity in a desert vegetation
S. SHAHID SHAUKAT, M. ARIF KHAIRI AND M. AJMAL KHAN

The relationships amongst dominance , diversity and community maturity in a desert vegetation
ABSTRACT:
Relationships among dominance , diversity and its components and community maturity were statistically evaluated . dominance and diversity were found to be inversely related . the two components od diversity – richness and equitability were found to be intimately associated with general diversity , and were equally important in governing the overall diversity. Community maturity was negatively correlated with general diversity and its components but was not significantly associated with dominance . the relatinships among the expressions of community organization are discussed.

Possibility of growing two rice crops in one season
M.A. AWAN, AKBAR ALI CHEEMA AND M. AKRAM

Possibility of growing two rice crops in one season
ABSTRACT:
The possibility of growing two rice crops in the same field during oneseason has been explored. An early maturing photoperiod intensive variety of fine basmati rice namely Kashmir basmati was used s the experimental material . the first crop of this variety was transplanted in the first week of may and harvested in the third week of august subsequently , the second crop was transplanted in the same field during the fourth week of august and was harvested in the third week of November. Thus leaving sufficient interval for the timely sowing of wheat crop n the same field . the grain yield of first and second crop was 2511.7 and 2610.5kg/ha respectively. The results of this experiment indicate that basmati yield can be doubled by growing two rice crops in one season.
