Effect of high hydrostatic pressure on the cell wall of polysiphonia nigrescenes and p. urceolata from Baltic sea
ABSTRACT:
The post treatment effects of hydrostatic pressure on the cell wall of polysiphonia nigrescens (huds) grev. And p. urceolata (dillw)grev., collected from different depths of kieler fords, were studied.the upper and lower limits of tolerance were found to differ in both of them P.urceolata , the shallow-water alga was more pressure sensitive than P. nigrescens the deep –water type. Short exposures to 5oo atm produced black

Mutation of a locuscotrolling heterocaryon compatibility in nuerospora crassa
ABSTRACT:
DURING THE ISOLATION OF TRYTOphan auxo trophs by irradiating the conidia of emenon a astrain of neurospora crassa , a mutant, A336a. was isolated which was heterocaryon negative with represntatives of both the joci tryptophan-l and tryptophan-2. Genetical investigation have revealed that A336a is a tryp-2 mutant which is heterocaryonnegative with tryp-l mutants bebecause a locus controlling heterocaryon formation has mutated in it. The locus in which has mutated allows heterocaryons formation with strains carrying the mutated allele but inhibits heterocaryon formation with strains carrying the trypeallels. Strains having the same mating type allele formed vigorously growing heterocaryons while strains having the opposite mating-type

Caharacterization of ribonucleic acids from haploid and diploid strains of protomyces oin undatus
ABSTRACT:
Total ribosomal and soluble ribonucleic acids have been prepared from protomyces inundates by phenol method . ridosomal ribonucleic acid contains two components , a large component with sedimentation coefficient of 25-24S and a small component with sedimentation coefficient of 18-16S. soluble ribonucleic acid sedimentation coefficient is 4S. the nucleotide compositions of total, ribosomal and soluble ribonucleic acids have been determined.total and ribosomal ribonucleic acids have 50% GC contents and soluble ribonucleic acids has 54% GC contents. The structure of ribonucleic acids from haploid and diploid strains is very similar.

Effect of lucose on the survival of mucor plumbeus bon, and mucor racemosus fresen, under ten atmosphere of pure oxygen

Effect of lucose on the survival of mucor plumbeus bon, and mucor racemosus fresen, under ten atmosphere of pure oxygen
ABSTRACT:
Studies have been made on the effect to the presence of glucose on survival and chances in catalase activity of mucor plumbeus bon, and M. racemosus fresen , under 10 atmosphere of pure oxygen . the survival of those fungi were greatly reduced on glucose media under high pressures of oxygen and showed rapid drop in catalase activity. Investigations made to determine the effect of different pH values on the changes in catalase activity under high pressure of oxygen and the effect of pH on the changes in catalase activity and survival time uggested that glucose acts indirectly by decreasing the pH to the media which results in a decrease in catalase activity and consequently an early death of fungi on the substrate under high pessures of oxygen.

Effect of different stimuli on the spore germination of helminthosporium oryzae breda de haan
ABSTRACT:
Chloroform (1 ppm) benzaldehyde (l1 ppm), acctone (10 ppm), ethyl acetate (1ppm) and extract of washed leaves of rice (100 ppm) stimulated spore germination of helminthoporium orysae. However, washings of rice leaves

Effect of antiviral chemicals on production of virus x free otato tubers

Effect of antiviral chemicals on production of virus x free otato tubers
ABSTRACT:
Growing tips . nodal segments with rudimentary buds and sprout discs excised from PVX infected tubers and seedlings were grown in modified and enriched medium. Thiouracil and malachite green were used as antiviral chemicals in different concentrations. Thiouracil was found to be more effective and better than malachite green for antiviral properties. Chemicals either arrested virus multiplication or rendered it inactive. A combination of the antiviral chemicals incorporated in medium did not result in synergistic action as presumed. It was further observed that potato extreact did not support root initiation or development , as claimed by manzer (1958) and others

Auxin transport in coleoptile segements of X-irradiated zea mays seedlings
ABSTRACT:
The effect of Xrays on the transport of 14C-methylene labeled indolcaccetate acid in subapical coleoptile segements of zea mays L. was examined. Transport determinations were made of segements in vertical and horizontal orientation. X-irradiation had no significance effect on either the velocity or intensity of basipetal auxin transport in the segments oriented vertically after irradiation. However, irradiation did significantly reduce the amounts of auxin transported when the segments

Shifting D50 as a parameter for radiation damage repair in cicer arietinum L. ev. C-612.
ABSTRACT:
The morphological critersion estimated the seedling performance of cuer arietinum L. ev. C-612 at three durations (15, 30 and 45 days from planting). The D50 values were 33.5, 38.5 and greater than 40.0 kiloroentgens for each duration. The shifting D50 values have provided an interpolated measure of gamma irradiation damage recovery at 30 and 45 days to be 15 and greater than 19 percent , respectively.

Effect of industrial pollution on seed germination
ABSTRACT:
The germination behaviour of seeds in polluted water soil extracts was found to be identical, only a few species behaved differently. Prostopis juliflora, haloxylon recurcum , accia Senegal showed best germination in the two conditions but prostopis juliflora was the most resistant to pollution . in suaeda fruticosa no germination took place in the control treatment where as highest germination (70%) was seen in treatment with polluted soil extract of EPLABLEPHARIS surdica showed stimulating effect of polluted water on germination , whereas low germination was observed when their seeds were

Temperature , pH and genotypes interactions affecting pollen germination and tube growth in carica papaya L.

Temperature , pH and genotypes interactions affecting pollen germination and tube growth in carica papaya L.
ABSTRACT:
Astudy was made to investigate the temperature and pH at which maximum germination of pollen and growth of pollen tube take place in carica papaya. Maximum germination and pollen tube growth were obtained at 27 degree C andpH 6.5. however , the differences among various levels of temperature and pH were statistically nonsignificant. To studt the effect of genotype and the the effects of temperature and pH over a wider range. 3 x 3 factorial experiments under three temperature were planned in completely random design. Three dioecious male plants of papaya represented the genotypes. Effects of three factors were highly significant
